We will visit Jogashima Island which is almost 70km south of Tokyo to observe the Miocene to Pliocene (12 to 4 Ma) Misaki Formation; a portion of accretionary prisms accompanied with volcanic turbidites once deposited in ancient deep Sagami Trough. Alternating beds of scoriaceous and tuffaceous sedimentary rocks of the formation well crop in the Jogashima Island. Looking carefully at the outcrop, you will find a lot of geological deformation structures such as normal faults, reverse faults, slump folds and flame structures. (More.)
