Estimation of surface-wave dispersion curves between two stations considering heterogeneous distribution of microtremor energy

Abstract
High resolution S-wave velocity structures can be constructed by applying surface-wave tomography for many two station dispersion curves of surface waves. In two-station microtremor analysis for shallow target, we usually assume homogeneous distribution of microtremor energy. In heterogeneous noise fields, it would be difficult to extract reliable two-station dispersion curves. In this study, we propose a processing to estimate reliable dispersion curves between two stations considering heterogeneous noise fields. In our approach, azimuth density function of microtremor energy is estimated from array data, and then dispersion curves between each station pair are estimated. The results of field data applications demonstrated that compared to homogeneous noise modeling, more reliable two-station dispersion curves could be extracted from our approach.
