Estimation of Shallow S-wave Velocity Structure by Seafloor Survey

Abstract
For the construction in marine area such as offshore wind farm and bridge, the S-wave velocity structure below the seafloor is important. Several survey methods have been considered to determine the S-wave velocity structure of shallow marine layers. JGI has been investigating 1) S-wave velocity structure using surface waves on the seafloor, and 2) converted S-wave survey using stand-alone receivers on the seafloor. The surface wave exploration was conducted in February 2020 in Kawajima Town, Saitama Prefecture. The survey with ocean bottom node was conducted in March 2020 in Beppu Bay, Oita Prefecture. This paper describes the data acquisition and analysis method.
