Trial Survey of High-Resolution Offshore 3D Seismic System at Beppu Bay, Oita Prefecture

Abstract
High resolution 3D (HR3D) seismic system employing a high-frequency source and a dense array of short streamers represents a significant advance in the field of marine seismic data acquisition. JGI, Inc. (JGI) developed a new HR3D system and has been conducting several surveys in Japan. The HR3D survey system has successfully achieved on various challenging issues such as cable weight reduction, cable noise reduction, improvement of positional measurement accuracy and cable control, flip-flop shooting with different types of sources, real-time QC/QA and in-house data processing. A trial HR3D survey was conducted in Beppu Bay, Kyushu, Japan. This paper describes the results of the survey.
