Investigation of velocity structure in Beppu Kannawa Area

Abstract
Gravity basement of Beppu geothermal field is delineated for interpretation of subsurface structure. The basement of Kannawa area is estimated to be especially higher than east and west side of the area based on the gravity measurement. In this study, microtremor measurement was conducted to obtain H/V spectrum ratio and a velocity structure on the different gravity basement. A presence of peak in the H/V spectrum ratio was generally corresponded to the gravity basement structure. The phase velocity of the Kannawa area was 800-900 m/s in the depth of 100 m, which is faster than that of Syounin area (low gravity basement area). These results confirmed the higher basement structure and thin alluvial deposit of the Kannawa area.
