Development of inversion analysis for frequency domain electromagnetic IP data

Abstract
We evaluated the IP effect that should be observed in the frequency-domain electromagnetic data by forward computation using the Cole-Cole relaxation model. We found it feasible to observe the IP effect in the frequency domain data though there was dependency on such conditions as intensity of chargeability and depth of the layer having IP anomaly. With several one-dimensional models, we then numerically examined whether the IP anomaly layer could be detected by inversion analysis of the frequency-domain EM data. The results of our numerical experiments indicated that the inversion analysis effectively located the low-resistivity, high-chargeability layer, which is targeted in metal ore deposits exploration, though all the Cole-Cole model parameters could not be determined.
