Quantitative evaluation of spatial, density and temporal resolution of muography

Abstract
Muography is a type of non-destructive inspection that uses cosmic ray muons to estimate the density distribution inside an object. Due to the smaller size and higher performance of observation equipment, the possibility of application of muography to underground is increasing. To evaluate the possibility quantitatively, we need quantitative evaluation of space, time, and density resolution of muography. Lesparre(2010) showed evaluation formulas for the density resolution and time resolution of muography, but the formula does not include parameters which would affect detection of area with different density(anomaly), such as the size of anomaly. In this report, the size of anomaly is added to the parameter and muography is simulated to evaluate its effect. MUSIC (Muon Simulation Code) is used for the simulation. The result suggests that the size of anomaly should be taken into consideration when using the formulas of Lesparre.
