Vibrational resonance of the free length measured at the ground anchor head

Abstract
The authors have been developing a non-destructive testing method for residual tensile force of ground anchors. This time, mock-up experiments were conducted in which both vibrator and accelerometer were attached only on the extra-length of the anchor. Frequency sweep signals were used to generate vibrations to the anchor. It was found that the vibrational resonance frequency, caused by the free vibration of the free length, can be detected by the accelerometer put on the extra-length of the anchor, and the tensile force can be estimated from the resonance frequency. The sweep speed should be slow enough to find resonant frequency correctly.
