Time-lapse seismic survey in the Tomakomai CCS demonstration project (preliminary results)

Abstract
As part of the Tomakomai CCS demonstration project, JCCS, commissioned from METI, planned and have been conducting 4D seismic surveys. From the beginning of the injection to date, two monitoring surveys have been completed. The first pass was in January to February 2017 and the second pass was in July to August 2017. Time-lapse processing for the second pass which was conducted at approximately 70,000 tons of cumulative injection volume shows a clear 4D response in the vicinity of the injection point. The 4D response is consistent with the injection well trajectory and with the reservoir model derived from pressure analysis based on the injection history. In Tomakomai area, 4D seismic survey data has a great potential to help understanding CO2 plume distribution, migration, and the reservoir characteristics.
