Development of equipment for fluid flow electromagnetic method and monitoring survey of water injection

Abstract
Monitoring of subsurface fluid behaviors is required for its efficient use. In this study, special measurement equipment for fluid flow electromagnetic method (FFEM) has been developed to monitor subsurface fluid flow. The FFEM method focuses on streaming potential caused by fluid flow and it estimates fluid flow changing spatiotemporally by observing electromagnetic field on the ground. The apparatus including MI sensor, analog circuit and microcontroller for AD conversion, measures electric field in the rectangular direction and magnetic field in the 3 orthogonal directions. Monitoring survey of water injection was conducted by using the well of Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry. Both FFEM data and self-potential data from reference electrode were measured simultaneously. Inversion of these data suggested a negative current source at water injection depth.
