Feasibility study of inversion of Tipper data for analysis of resistivity structure in geothermal field

Abstract
In the geothermal exploration using Magnetotelluric(MT) method, improvement in accuracy of subsurface structure analysis has been disturbed by the difficulty in increasing the number of observation points due to a lot of steep topography in geothermal field. For the removal of this problem, this study proposes to analyze by combining MT method and Geomagnetic Depth Sounding(GDS) method. GDS data are Tipper that defines the relationship among the three components of the magnetic field so that it is easy to increase the observation points even in steep terrain. We carried out the numerical simulation that is 2D inversion using 2D and 3D synthetic model while changing conditions such as the number and position of observation points. Our simulation showed that the inversion result using only GDS observation points is not enough close to the true model. However, by adding a few MT observation points there, it is possible to sufficiently estimate the reliable subsurface structure.
