International standardization of CO2 geological storage

Abstract
Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) is recognized as a key technology for mitigation of CO2 emission to the atmosphere. CO2 geological storage is an essential component in the entire process. Currently, aiming global deployment of CCS, TC265 organized as one of technical committee in International Standard Organization (ISO) has promoted the standardization of CCS technology. The standardization has been developed in 6 working groups, Capture, Transportation, Geological storage, CO2-EOR etc. The storage part has been completed and was published as ISO27914 at last October. It includes site selection, injection operation and site closure. In Japan, a mirror committee has organized in response to establishment of TC265. Japan national committee has made significant contribution to the standard development through the committee and working group activities. Our presentation and paper provide procedure of developing ISO document, contribution of Japan and contents of ISO27914 in outline.
