Experimental studies on non-destructive evaluation of residual load of ground anchors

Abstract
The authors have proposed a new method of non-destructive evaluation for residual load of ground anchors by using the frequency of free vibration of the tension length as a "string". Although the applicability of the method was confirmed at a real ground anchor slop, there are a lot of types of anchors to be confirmed. This time, physical model experiments were conducted by using three different types of anchors and applying three different residual loads. The tension lengths of the models were too short to observe free vibrations frequencies changing with tension. On the other hand, the frequency of free vibration of a beam fixed both ends were observed. It shows that the vibration applied at the extra length of the anchor head can excite the free vibration of the tension length and the vibration can be observed at the extra length. Additional physical experiments will be needed and planned to confirm the applicability of the proposed method.
