Simplification of velocity estimation method on a tunnel forward exploration using blasting at the tunnel face


Abstract
An algorithm for estimation of velocity behind tunnel face is developed and implemented to a tunnel forward exploration system using blasting at the tunnel face. The algorithm is based on the ratio between the amplitude of forward going wave and reflecting wave. The method is evaluated using simulated waveforms calculated by 3D FDM on two models. The result shows possibility of actual application. An example of application to actual data obtained at a tunnel construction site is shown.
