A numerical study of elastic full-wave inversion for surface-to-tunnel seismic tomography

Abstract
We performed a numerical experiment of elastic full-wave inversion (EFWI) for surface-to-tunnel seismic tomography, in which seismic waves generated by some sources on ground surface and blasting on tunnel face are received on ground surface. We tested a complicated geophysical model in the experiment, in order to verify the advantage of EFWI, that could be a tough structure to be restored by conventional travel-time tomography. As a result, we found EFWI can exhibit high performance for obtaining accurate images both of Vp and Vs, thus information of poisson's ratio distribution that can be a clue to detect brittle zones, possible obstacles for the tunnel excavation.
