Variability of nonlinear amplification in shallow soil models from surface-wave inversion using the Markov-chain Monte Carlo method

Abstract
We approximate the variability of 1D linear and nonlinear soil amplifications due to the uncertainty in shallow S-wave velocity profiles derived from surface-wave phase velocity inversion using the Markov-chain Monte Carlo method. In the numerical experiment, we find that the nonlinear amplification has less variability than the linear amplification. This result is caused by the high damping factor applied in the nonlinear soil response. We also apply the method to actual phase velocities from microtremor measurement around K-NET Tsukidate station (MYG004).
