Removing Coherent Noise from Magnetotelluric Data Using Cepstrum

Abstract
A noise reduction is one of the most important problems in magnetotelluric data analysis. Random noise can be reduced by stacking in frequency domain. However periodic coherent noise such as the noise from DC electric railcar can not be eliminated despite of using remote reference method. A new approach to reduce a violent noise of time series data was presented in previous paper. As a result of experiment using field data, it was found that cepstrum analysis was effective to get smooth MT apparent resistivities. But its effectiveness of new method could not be evaluated qualitatively. So the evaluation of cepstrum analysis was tried using artificial time series of electromagnetic data. Some examles of remoing random and coherent noises are shown in this paper.
