An injection monitoring test by fluid flow electromagnetic method

Abstract
In order to figure out the dynamic behavior of subsurface resource fluid, such as petroleum, geothermal fluid and groundwater etc., it is important to monitor the three-dimensional dynamic fluid flow and transient changes using geophysical techniques. Fluid flow electromagnetic method is able to estimate the real-time behavior of fluid flow by measuring three components of magnetic field and two components of electric field. Small measurement equipment using MI sensors and metal electrodes was developed for the purpose of measuring electromagnetic field that is related to subsurface fluid flow. We carried out an injection monitoring test of fluid flow electromagnetic method with developed equipment at the test site of CRIEPI in Abiko, Chiba prefecture. The measured results show that the developed equipment is able to measure magnetic field and electric field that is related to subsurface fluid flow.
