Development of a Ray Tracing Program for Seismic Refraction Analysis

Abstract
In seismic refraction method, the subsurface velocity structure can be determined using traveltimes of refraction waves. Before determining 2-D velocity structure, calculation of traveltimes for arbitrary velocity distribution is required. Therefore, we developed a ray tracing program for seismic refraction analysis and examined raypaths in the survey area. In this program, four nodes are set on vertexes of each square cell and the path calculation from one node to another within each cell is achieved. The raypaths and traveltimes were calculated using the Dijkstra's algorithm. In order to test a performance of this program, the field survey at a mounded tomb in the Ito campus of Kyushu University was carried out.
