Some issues revealed in the handling and processing of aeromagnetic data acquired with HELITEM survey in geothermal area

Abstract
As an activity of the SEGJ Airborne Geophysics Research Committee, we have inspected into the aeromagnetic data acquired with HELITEM survey in geothermal areas of Hachimantai and Niseko, under the JOGMEC project. Although the data inspection showed a good quality of observation, the data we handled are not the raw observational data, but the final products supplied from the contractor CGG, according to the terms and conditions of the contract. There is an issue that the terrain clearance of magnetic observation is much shorter than line spacing. This means much anisotropic resolution of data, and the altitude reduction process of potential field might not successfully be applied, because of ambiguous anomaly distribution (in shorter wavelengths) towards tie-line direction. In mountainous area survey, flights are conducted along the terrain surface, and the traverse and tie lines do not intersect in 3D space in general. This situation might cause another issue of crossover adjustment if altitude reduction cannot work properly.
