Estimation of high resolution velocity structure of Yamagawa Geothermal Field by application of Full Waveform Inversion

Abstract
Although accurate estimation of velocity model is important in seismic processing, it is very difficult to acquire velocity structure through normal velocity picking in geothermal field since the reservoirs are usually fracture-dominated. Full Waveform Inversion is a method to estimate high resolution velocity structure thorough fitting of observed and synthetic wavefield and it is expected to be effective in Geothermal Field. We have applied FWI to Yamakawa Geothermal seismic data to make accurate velocity model and use the model in Pre-Stack Depth Imaging. Noise attenuation procedure in pre-processing was critical in improving accuracy and PreSDM quality has improved using FWI velocity model.
