Ground Penetrating Radar Survey at Dazaifu Kuratsukasa Area

Abstract
Dazifu was the biggest local public office during the Nara and Heian periods in Kyushu. The Kuratuskasa was a branch office of ancient Dazaifu and the tax and local special products were controlled there. The 133 cornerstones concerning about the ancient buildings were discovered at the Kuratsukasa area in the Edo period. But only a part of cornerstones are appeared at the present time. The GPR survey was carried out in order to find the evidence of ancient Kuratsukasa in Dazaifu city, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. As a result of GPR survey, some remarkable GPR anomalies which correspond to buried cornerstones were detected. These anomalies were visualized three-dimensionally using isosurface map.
