Study on several kinds of geophysical method for fracture detection in a limestone quarry


Abstract
Electrical resistivity method, Ohm-Mapper, EM method (GEM2), Ground penetrating radar and Radioactivity method were adopted for study of fractures in a limestone quarry. Low resistivity zones were delineated by Electrical resistivity method, Ohm-Mapper and EM method(GEM2). Reflections from dipping fractures and blind reflection zones were detected by Ground penetrating radar. High 40K, 214Bi, 208Tl counts zones were detected by radioactivity method. Those zones detected by each geophysical methods are coincident with the fracture zones observed at slope of the limestone quarry. All of the geophysical methods showed effective results and resolution, investigation depth and required hours for the work for each geophysical method became clear.
