Numerical simulation of fluid flow electromagnetic method for hydrothermal convection system

Abstract
In order to sustainably produce and reinject geothermal fluids, it is important to monitor the dynamic behavior of geothermal fluids. Fluid flow electromagnetic method is able to monitor the behavior of subsurface fluid flow by measuring three components of magnetic field and two components of electric field. In this study, by taking the three steps, we tried to calculate streaming potential and electromagnetic field which are continuously changed with time. In the first step, a fluid flow in geothermal reservoir is calculated by TOUGH2 which is a transient numerical simulator. In the second step, streaming potentials are calculated by TOUGH2 result, pressure distributions. In the third step, a calculation of electromagnetic field based on the streaming potentials is carried out. A sample problem for the simulation of reinjection with a numerical model of a geothermal reservoir was conducted. As a result, the features of the distributions of streaming potential and electromagnetic field which are changed with time can estimate the fluid flow behavior.
