Development of low-cost seismograph and high-density seismic observation

Abstract
A low-cost seismograph for seismic observation in local area has been developed in this study. The low-cost seismograph has single board computer named Raspberry Pi as the control device, MEMS type accelerometers as the sensor device and 3G-communication module as the communication device. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the low-cost seismograph, we conducted shaking table tests using 5 low-cost seismographs. As the results, the low-cost seismographs record the ground motion with good accuracy. We have carried out high-density seismic observation using this seismograph at three points that are located in same area and the difference between maximum PGA and minimum PGA was 20%. This result suggests that it is important to quantify spatial distribution of site amplification characteristics in more detail.
