Microtremor observations for the strong-motion stations around source region of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake

Abstract
Velocity structure models for four strong ground motion stations located near the source area of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake (Mj7.3) which occurred on 16 April 2016 are estimated using microtremor array survey. We deployed seven sensors in triangular arrays with maximum radius of 320-360 m. Mircrotremor data were acquired approximately 40 minutes to 1.5 hours on each array using seven seismometers. Using SPAC method, we obtained phase velocities for 0.5-8 Hz from microtremor array records. Velocity structure models to a depth of 0.5-1.5 km were estimated by fitting the theoretically calculated phase velocities to the observed phase velocities. Synthetic velocity waveforms for Mj5.8 earthquake calculated using the estimated velocity models agree well with the observed velocities (0.3-2.0 Hz).
