Issues on Static Corrections for Reflection Seismic Surveys in Geothermal Areas : Approaches in the Yamagawa Field

Abstract
Although reflection seismic survey in geothermal area is expected to give detail subsurface images, there are some challenges to acquire reasonable quality. One of such issues is static correction because the weathering zones in geothermal area usually have regional large velocity variations. We have conducted LVL survey in Yamagawa geothermal Field before 3D seismic survey. We extrapolate the weathering velocity information acquired from LVL survey using statistical approach, and apply them to static correction calculation. The result indicates that weathering layer velocity information is important in surveys in geothermal area.
