Continuous monitoring of the rock stability (preliminary report)

Abstract
We have developed a method to assess rock-fall risk by comparing vibrations of a loosened rock block with that on the base rock. As one of trials, since November in 2015, we have been monitoring vibration characteristics for a rock block partially embedded near surface of steep natural slope in Nagano prefecture. The vibration characteristics are sensitive to climatic change, and in particular remarkable changes due to light rainfall are observed in our monitor records. In addition, our records show that the rock block becomes stable in cold winter and unstable in warmer season.
