A case study to verify results of an integrated geophysical survey at an earthen levee - Ground truthing data on a slope of an excavated levee at the 5.1 KP on the Aga River -

Abstract
Public Works Research Institute and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists of Japan have been carrying out a series of studies aiming the research and the development of enriched investigation and for establishing the assessment method for river levees and their related structures since 2013. We acquired the ground truth data in 2015 on an open-cut slope surface of a levee at the 5.1 KP on the Aga River where we had performed a high resolution integrated geophysical investigation from the surface in 2014. We compared the integrated geophysical investigation results with the ground truth data, and confirmed that the both results matched well. Furthermore, it was verified that the S-wave velocity and resistivity mapping results corresponded to the various soil type distributions at the slope. Our study also revealed that a specific soil distribution pattern was difficult to be detected by the resistivity method from the surface. In order to obtain this soil distribution pattern, drilling and other geophysical investigative methods should be included as prior information at the analysis stage.
