Resistivity model using porous clay volume for clayey soils

Abstract
A new representation of the resistivity model using volume fraction of the porous clay is presented to include unique features of clayey soil such that the clay has large porosity and high water saturation. Introducing porous clay that comprised of small materials and water saturated pore space enables us to satisfy the clayey soils characteristics. The volume fraction of the porous clay is determined for a limited range of combinations of total porosity and solid clay fraction. A simulation result shows that the range of the combinations is consistent with actual data distribution. The responses of the resistivity with respect to porosity and saturation do not violate previous understandings. This resistivity model will provide us more realistic interpretations for shallow subsurface.
