| Abstract | Recycling laws were enacted in 2000. On the other hand, various types of wastes were discarded into landfills without intermediate treatments before 2000. However metals are seldom detected in leachates, meaning that valuable metals remain trapped in landfills. A purpose of this study is that we prospect metal-enriched zone and urban mining of landfill sites become economically viable as rare metals become scarcer. We have previously examined the enrichment processes in landfill. In addition, we developed and tested a nondestructive three-dimensional prospecting system. We used resistivity and induced polarization measurements to identify metal enriched zones in landfill sites. Furthermore, to understand the result of these measurements, we conducted some experiments in a laboratory. The results show that IP measurement is an efficient method for prospecting in metal-enriched zones. |
