Simultaneous multi-shot acquisition using arbitrary seismic waveform using amplitude modulation

Abstract
Broadband high S/N source is desirable at both surface and borehole seismic surveys. We develop an approach of high S/N data acquisition from multiple shots excited simultaneously using amplitude modulation (AM) technique. Sweep source and pseudo-random source are usually repeated many times for enhancing S/N, and thus the source signal exists at limited channels in frequency domain. The idea of the AM technique is to utilize empty channels assigned for many other shots, and thus the multiple shot data can be decomposed without any crosstalk. We performed an experimental tests using 1/1000 laboratory-scale model with AM-applied pseudo-random source, whose signature after auto-correlation is quite broadband. The result confirmed that shot data are decomposed completely and each shot gather is reconstructed without observable crosstalk. Since our approach can be applied to variable-amplitude source, this technique should contribute to high S/N, broadband data acquisition using piezoelectric or vibroseis source.
