Digital rock physics for seismic monitoring of injected CO2

Abstract
To characterize the influence of reservoir conditions upon multiphase flow, we calculated fluid displacements (drainage processes) within 3D pore spaces of Berea sandstone using two-phase lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulation. We then calculated the mineralization process within pore space using the information derived from LBM fluid simulation. Finally we calculated the relationship between elastic properties (seismic velocity) and CO2 saturation, in order to evaluate the possibility of monitoring of CO2 mineralization. The elastic properties of the mineralized digital rock samples demonstrate that elastic properties are much influenced by the mineralization features.
