Portable, Scalable and Maintainable ACROSS seismic source


Abstract
We have constructed a newly designed ACROSS seismic source with fundamental modification on the conventional ACROSS sources. The new ACROSS source has an advantage on the portability, scalability and maintainability over the conventional ones. The new seismic source is composed of small units that reduce the heat production using smaller bearing and increase the scalability with joint operation of the units. Reduction of heat production also reduce the necessity of cooler facility on the source which are employed for the ACROSS source at Awaji, Tono, Mori and others. Steel weights which are joined to the source unit also reduce the size of the source foundation, which is often a source of problem on the deployment. The new source succeeds to the conventional ACROSS on the advantage of high energy efficiency and eccelent controllability which is essential for monitoring tool of seismic propagation property.
