1-D modeling of marine CSEM method for methane hydrate exploration

Abstract
Currently, seismic explorations are often used for the oil and gas exploration in the ocean. However, exploration risk is increasing because depth of oil reservoirs in the ocean have become deeply in recent years. In order to solve this problem, accurate and efficient method that can complement seismic exploration is desirable. So marine CSEM method has been attracting attention in exploration of oil, gas and methane hydrate beneath the sea bottom. Since technologies in the marine CSEM method is developing, improvement of analysis techniques and measurement accuracy has become an issue. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of marine CSEM method in exploration of methane hydrate. In this study, some simulations assuming a two-layer structure including a methane hydrate layer were done. The amplitude and phase in horizontal electric field were calculated in these simulations.
