The numerical simulation of fluid flow electromagnetic method in 3-D heterogeneous structure

Abstract
In order to figure out the dynamic behavior of subsurface resource fluid, such as geothermal fluid and ground water etc., it is important to monitor the fluid flow continuously using geophysical techniques. Fluid flow electromagnetic method that measures electromagnetic phenomena associated with fluid flow is one of those methods. By using this method, it is possible to estimate subsurface current source location from two components of electric field and three components of magnetic field. In this research, we developed the forward program that can handle heterogeneous resistivity structure for fluid flow electromagnetic method. Both electric and magnetic fields in heterogeneous structure are calculated by using this program. The inversion of fluid flow electromagnetic method was performed assuming homogeneous structure. Computation errors of source locations were examined using homogeneous inversion. As the result, it is possible that homogeneous assumption is applicable for inhomogeneous model, if anomalous body is small and is buried deeply.
