GPR survey for granite at the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory

Abstract
To evaluate the distribution of geological discontinuity such as fractures around the underground gallery is one of the important factors for safety assessment and facility design of geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste, but it is difficult to evaluate them enough only by geological survey such as boring investigations. We carried out GPR to obtain the distribution of fractures around the underground gallery of granite at Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory, and demonstrate its usefulness for fracture mapping.
