Correction for the effect of vehicle attitude change on AUV magnetic survey

Abstract
Correction for the effect of vehicle attitude change is essential for the detailed AUV magnetic survey in addition to the correction of the vehicle's permanent and induced magnetic field. In this study, we have investigated the effect of vehicle attitude change using the vector magnetic data collected by AUV "URASHIMA" of JAMSTEC during the survey of mud volcanoes off Tanegashima. We confirmed the vehicle attitude change, especially the pitch change, strongly affects the calculated magnetic anomaly. Then, we attempted to use the magnetic data measured during the vehicle's turns between survey lines for the better estimation of the constants related to the vehicle's permanent and induced magnetic field. In order to derive the real magnetic anomaly, we also applied the method to estimate the pitch effect on the magnetic data by using correlation coefficient between the magnetic anomaly and the pitch change.
