Application Example of the Digital Standard Formats to Integrated Geophysical Techniques to Safety Assessment of Levee

Abstract
The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake caused severe damage to many levees in Kanto plain. It is important to detect internal anomaly of levees without visible damage from the levee safety management point of view. Integrated geophysical method was applied to the 160km of levee in order to detect relatively loosen embankment. Surface wave and resistivity methods were performed at the crest of the levee and total survey line length was approximately 320km. Analyzing and interpreting geophysical data based on standardized and unified criteria is very important from the management point of view. The Society of Exploration Geophysicists of Japan (SEGJ) took a charge of establishing standardized and unified criteria and the authors conducted statistical analysis in the project. Data acquisition and processing were conducted by four geophysical contractors. The standard digital format has been discussed in SEGJ enables the contractors to process the huge amount of data effectively and a client to indicate standardized and unified criteria.
