GPR survey around Yoshinogari ruins using RTK-GPS

Abstract
Accurate positioning of GPR antenna is one of the most essential issues for visualization of detailed subsurface structure by GPR. One of the methods to observe the antenna position is to utilize RTK-GPS. The authors have applied GPR using RTK-GPS to archaeological survey in and around Yosinogari Historical Park, Saga Prefecture. Although the excavational investigations of the ruins had almost been finished, and the area was currently being developed as a park, we found several deep anomalies beneath a road which was not yet investigated. We could image the spatial distribution of the anomalies by measuring GPR antenna position precisely. We considered that the anomalies had the possibility of still undiscovered relics of Yayoi period. To identify the cause of the anomalies, we have a further plan to continue the survey and the detailed analysis.
