Effects of Frozen Soft Surface Soil on Exploration of Underground Structure

Abstract
The frost heave of surface ground affects underground structure investigation results because of changing physical properties. In Kushiro which has soft soil and deep frost heave, we carried out microtremor array observations and surface wave investigation to estimate S-wave velocity structures, at summer and winter. The seasonal variations of underground structure investigation results in cold region were evaluated. The observed waveform data of surface wave method were completely different between of summer and winter. The dispersion curves of surface wave are strongly affected by frost surface soil. Therefore, in winter season careful exploration are required for seasonal frozen ground area.
