Comparison of practical marine controlled-source electromagnetic methods for offshore hydrocarbon explorations


Abstract
In this paper, two major MCSEM methods applied for marine EM oil & gas exploration service company, EMGS and PrtroMarker, are evaluated by simulating 1D and 2D electromagnetic responses of hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs. EMGS uses a frequency domain MCSEM and used widely in the world from 2002. The PetroMaker's method is the time domain one and used from 2008. Generally, the EMGS's method has been applied in the deep sea water depth and the PetroMarker's method has been applied in the shallow one. However, this study suggests the PetroMarker's method can be applied regardless of the sea depth.
