Laboratory measurements of ultrasonic wave in partially frozen unconsolidated sands containing clays -Data acquisition-

Abstract
The objective of a series of our experimental studies is to establish measurement system using an ultrasonic P-wave and S-wave transmission technique in low temperature. In this study, we conducted laboratory measurements of ultrasonic P-wave and S-wave in partially frozen unconsolidated sands containing clays saturated with brine for different distances between the source and receiver transducers. Firstly we considered how should we mix sands and clays with brine and how should we decide ratio of sands and clays with brine. Finally we observed the variations of a transmitted wave in partially frozen unconsolidated sands containing clays saturated with brine, changing its temperature from room temperature to -15 degrees C.
