Testing the applicability of seismic interferometry based on the numerical simulation of microseisms

Abstract
We tested the applicability of seismic interferometry by using the numerical simulation of microseisms in and around the Osaka sedimentary basin (Uebayashi et al., 2012, Geophys. J. Int., 189:1060-1074). The inter-station Green's functions are extracted by calculating the cross-correlations of numerical simulation of microseisms at 105 CEORKA station pairs. From the retrieved Green's functions, both Rayleigh and Love wave type signals are identified at most station pairs. We also showed the clear normal dispersion characteristics of group velocity which theoretically expected from the velocity structure model assumed for simulating the microseisms. Therefore, the validity of seismic interferometry to estimate the underground structure model has been verified.
