Estimation of S-wave velocity structure of railway embankments by surface wave exploration and array microtremors survey

Abstract
To evaluate the safety of running trains during earthquakes, the estimations of seismic responses about railway structures are necessary. Nevertheless the estimating S-wave velocity structures is important in embankment sections, there are few study about railway embankments. We performed seismic observations, of which sensors were installed on the ground surface and the embankment, at two embankment sites on the closed Takachiho railway line. In this study, we obtained the phase velocities of Rayleigh wave on the ground surface and the embankments by the surface wave exploration and array microtremors survey and tried to estimate the S-wave velocity structures using observed phase velocities for each.
