Seismic structure beneath the Kyushu island as inferred from S-wavevector receiver function analyses

Abstract
We apply S-wavevector receiver function (SWV-RF) analysis to image the seismic velocity structure beneath the Kyushu island. In this study, we exploit the modified SWV-RFs. For suppressing the sedimentary layer effect, we virtually move the seismic sensor to the top of the basement layer from its real sensor depth, and calculate the SWV-RFs basement [Takenaka and Murakoshi, 2010]. We here use two velocity models to time-to-depth conversion for the SWV-RFs. Then, the difference between the depth converted SWV-RFs of the two velocity models is very slight, and in the mapped SWV-RFs for both used models the continental Moho and the top of Philippine Sea slab are clearly imaged. It implies that the SWV-RFs are not sensitive to velocity structure model for time-to-depth conversion and our method is robust.
