Verification experiment for the characterization of pavement surface structure using GPR and high-frequency surface wave method.

Abstract
The authors have started a research and development on nondestructive measurements of the pavement using GPR and high-frequency surface wave method. Following a previous report, we conducted a field measurement which was carried out on a pavement where cracks and wheel ruts were obvious. From the analysis result of GPR, the feature that roadbase thickness changed into was caught. Based on the pavement structure estimated by GPR, we carried out a parameter study on the surface pavement structure to the responses of dispersion curves of surface waves. The results showed possibility to estimate pavement structure successfully by predicting the discontinuity position of dispersion curves. In order to validate the results of GPR and high-frequency surface wave method, we conducted borehole camera inspection at several ten check drillings on the pavement. We confirmed that the estimated thickness of roadbase was consistent with borehole camera image. Based on the confirmed pavement structure, we calculated the dispersion curves of surface wave again. And we report about verification result of the pavement estimation by surface wave method.
