Feasibility Studies of 2-D Linear Array Microtremore Survey for Levee Embankments

Abstract
MASW (Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves) has found favor as a survey technique for levee embankments. However, certain technical challenges, particularly the requirement to survey at greater depths, still remain. To address this, the authors carried out a feasibility study using a 2-Dimensional Linear Array Microtremor Survey Method (hereafter referred to as 2D-LAMS) on high levees. The results show that (1) 2D-LAMS was able to examine underlying formations at greater depths from high levee surfaces. (2) The results obtained by 2D-LAMS were in agreement with those obtained by MASW. We also determined that combining two dispersion curves, one obtained by 2D-LAMS and the other by MASW, resulted in high resolution S-wave velocity distributions from the levee surface to its foundation.
