Partial saturation and seismic attenuation in CO2 geological storage

Abstract
Seismic method has been adopted frequently as the most reliable monitoring technique in CO2 geological storage project. However, so far, almost only seismic velocity has been applied there. The amplitude which is another important property of seismic method has not been applied sufficiently. In this paper, we demonstrate several P-wave attenuation mechanisms caused by wave-induced flow and apply the mechanism to the relationship between CO2 saturation and seismic attenuation of Nagaoka project.
