Estimation of Q value using seismic reflection data

Abstract
Seismic wave is attenuated due to several factors such as spherical divergent, scattering, and internal friction. The information of attenuation is very useful, not only for seismic processing but also for interpretation of seismic data (e.g., lithology characterization). The degree of attenuation can be expressed by quality factor , the strata with high attenuation has low Q and vice versa. There are some methods for calculating the value of quality factor. In this study, we used spectral ratio method (LSR). Firstly, we confirm the accuracy of this method. Then we estimated Q by applying this method to the real multi-channel seismic reflection data and VSP data acquired at the Median Tectonic Line (MTL).
